Regional Training Workshop on Financial Crimes Investigation for Law Enforcement Officers, Nairobi, Kenya

CWAG AAP took part in the Regional Training Workshop on Financial Crimes Investigation for Law Enforcement Officers in Eastern and Southern Africa, in Nairobi, Kenya from 12th to 16th November 2018. The workshop was organized by the Enhancing Africa’s Response to Transnational Organized Crime (ENACT) which is a European Union-funded Project at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS).

Martin Ewi – Regional organized crime and regional observatory coordinator, Southern Africa, ENACT said “Drugs and financial crimes are like cancer that need to be dealt with. Our objective is to support the law enforcement agencies in curing the crimes. Networking is key in curbing this menace. He noted during the closing ceremony”

Deo Gumba – ENACT Regional Coordinator for East and Horn of Africa thanked all the workshops participants and partners and said that he is looking forward to more productive meetings as such. He encouraged participants to keep being passionate in the fight against illicit drug trade and financial crimes.
Mr. Bethwel – Head of National Central Bureau, In his speech thanked the Interpol Bureau for East Africa, the ENACT project, ISS and the conference delegates in general for a successful and very enlightening workshop.
“Illicit drug trade and financial crimes are felt throughout the East and Southern Africa Region and it is motivating to have people across both regions work together for a successful fight against these crimes”. He noted.

Angelo Izama – CWAG AAP Facilitator facilitated on Asset Forfeiture.

“It is important for the criminal investigators to work together with the financial investigators linking their investigation to the property. These two are the most important in the asset forfeiture proceedings.” He said.
